Onigiri

The delicious rice ball that you love to love

Rice Balls

Balls of rice. With stuff inside. If you've been to Japan, you know them, love them, and probably eat them 18 days a week.

Snap a photo of a rice ball on your phone (try to get one pic of the wrapper and one of the inside), write the name of the place you bought it and the name of the onigiri in the subject line, then write a one or two line review and send it to post@onigiri.posterous.com!

i love shiso mint and i love cheese, but the two together?! the cheese makes the tangy perilla milder,  and the perilla keeps the cheese chunks from tasting bland. a stroke of genius,  get this one heated up.

AMPM とろろ昆布 鮭 Grated Konbu Seaweed Threads and Salmon

ampm always has the best and most unusual musubi (rice without nori). topped with tororo konbu seaweed thats slimy to the touch but not pungent, nice mild ocean taste. its "hokkaido style" so theres a big hunk of salmon inside. not overcooked or sticky、a perfect and unexpected combination.

You know when you're toro (fatty tuna) is pink that you're gonna be OK. Fresh tasting. Crunchy scallions. Hint of wasabi. No sauce. Sunkus has my favorite negi toro thus far.

crispy nori and fluffy rice,  but the filling wasnt so exciting. a medium amount of the greens, but a little bland. not spicy, but peppery and vinegary. still not bad.

sticky but not at all gummy. sweet but not cloying. softer than most red rice, in a good way. tops for observing excess alcohol in the stomach.

No filling in the first four bites. Good thing the AM PM rice is good. Mashed "tataki" ume. Would one call that the roasted pickled plum? No pit. Definitely sour. Definitely salty. Once you hit it, you're glad you did. But...

No filling on the first bite. full pitted plum rather than paste, which was nice. rice a bit mushy but still not bad.

AM PM Fatty Tuna with Onion ねぎとろ

AM PM has negi toro? It does right now.
Mashed up (fatty? really?) tuna with chopped scallions. AM PM's version was heavy on the shoyu (soy sauce) with a slight hint of wasabi. A little salty and strangely chewy bits of fish?! Rice was a slightly soggy - unlike AM PM's usual high quality.
